How long do brain injury symptoms last?
Not all symptoms after a concussion or mild TBI go away on their own. Some symptoms called post concussive symptoms or PCS for up to 48% of people may lost more than one year or longer.

A Traumatic Brain Injury or "TBI" affects people differently, and can cause a range of impairments called post-concussion symptoms or "PCS." Post-concussive symptoms include cognitive symptoms (e.g., difficulty concentrating, slower thinking), somatic symptoms (e.g., headaches, fatigue, dizziness), and emotional symptoms (e.g., irritability, frustration, restlessness). For a more detailed list of various symptoms see our post titled Brain Injury Symptoms & Signs. Brain injury symptoms can be tricky to spot and may appear as other common medical conditions, which makes it vital that you see a medical doctor who can help diagnose whether a brain injury may be the cause of any ongoing symptoms after a bicycle accident or car crash.
While many people recover from mild-TBI within weeks or months, research studies confirm that 24% to 48% of people who suffer a mild-TBI can continue to experience post-concussive symptoms or "PCS" for years after their initial injury. This article is only for mild-TBIs also sometimes referred to as concussions. For a discussion about the different severity levels of TBI see our post titled Not All Traumatic Brain Injuries Are the Same.
The diagnosis may be a "mild TBI", but the impact of these symptoms can be severe and life-altering. Even "so-called" mild-TBI symptoms can lead to difficultly with school or working, anti-social behavior, changes in demeanor, depression, anxiety, loss of enjoyment of life and activities, and cause many other types of issues for people. Don't be fooled, a concussion or mild TBI is a very serious injury that requires expert medical doctors and experienced lawyers to help recover from both medically and financially.
By understanding TBIs and your legal rights, you can take control of your medical and legal recovery and your future. If you have suffered or suspect a brain injury may have occurred from a bicycle accident or car crash we may be able to help.
